Poetry by M.B. King

A line from a Langston Hughes poem, Mother to Son, was what inspired me to begin writing when I was about six years old. The line is, “Well, son, I'll tell ya, life for me ain't been no crystal stair.” Unlike many children, bedtime was my favorite time of day, because I knew my father would read poetry to me, and our poetry readings always ended with Mother to Son. Although I loved hearing my father’s voice recite many poems, I would anxiously await the last, my favorite. The title may be Mother to Son, but for me, it was “Father to Daughter” when it came to poetry.

It was with great honor and pride that I began writing poetry for behind this collar. Sherri and I share a God-given bond. We share a deep faith, and our faith allowed us to leap together into this venture. Know that what we bring to you is from our hearts. Our love for animals and deep compassion for others has encouraged us to share our gifts with many. Our goal is to help you preserve your memories of the special pet with which you have journeyed, whether that journey has just begun or has ended for now.

I look forward to hearing your stories, and I hope that you enjoy your shadow box as much as we will enjoy creating it for you!
